Global Design Initiative

Global Design Initiative

GDI is a collaborative initiative initiated by global design academies, jointly propelled by five international art and design universities and institutes in London, Cologne, Singapore, Taipei, and Tokyo. This initiative brings together like-minded members, predominantly comprised of global leaders in design education, to create a fresh design paradigm through dialogue and exchange.

Through iterative scrutiny, hands-on practices, discussions, and reflections, GDI is dedicated to cultivating a new environment within design education. Interdisciplinary research and interaction uncover novel opportunities and activities in design education, fostering effective communication and sharing. Simultaneously, the diversity of cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary collaboration strengthens dialogues on current trends in art, design education, and higher education. Furthermore, GDI is committed to establishing a knowledge and experience database, promoting broader participation and interaction through a more global perspective.

Imagine a time where social and financial transactions are increasingly less prioritized while in the process of creating and collaborating. What would the effects of that be on the relationships between creatives, and with their own processes and art?

How can designers/artists begin healthy discourses and discussions to foster collective growth within their community?

What are some harmful mindsets of modern creatives today when approaching their craft? What do we have to unlearn to pave way for more communal approaches?
